2. Tools

All the tools listed below are already fully installed and (when necessary) configured.

They are the suggestions we recommand for the main tasks on a Ruby on Rails development platform, based on our experience and our personnal feelings.
You can install and use your own preferred softwares at will.

NB : version numbers correspond to the VirtualRails release date. When in VirtualRails, we recommand to run the Mint Updater to get your OS and Tools up to date.

 


3. Gems

All the gems listed below are already fully installed and (when necessary) configured, including required underlying libraries (like thinking-sphinx or rmagick)
You can run a "sudo gem install [gem_name]" to install a new gem, or use all the other rubygems commands to administrate your gems.

NB : The bolded bullets are the basic gems needed to run a Ruby on Rails web-application with a MySQL database.
